Tool - Ænima
(14 Dec 2010)
Ænima could have been so much better, if it weren't for the fact that it drags on indefinitely. The production is so stale that by the time you're on "Third Eye" you wish 14 minutes suddenly became 14 seconds and you could go on with your life already!
There are definitely great and interesting details to this album, but apparently if you're gods to your fans you're not allowed to show any speck of humanity (after all, humans are unable to be this good, right? Right?), meaning that there is literally no energy to find anywhere to within two miles of this album. Guess that, having been summoned from the heavens unto Earth again after a whole 3 years, Maynard James Keenan, Danny Carey and those other two guys, just wanted to be done with the recording process and go back to eternal pleasures or something.
"A groan of tedium escapes me, stuttering, fearful.
Is this a test?
It has to be. otherwise I can't go on.
Draining patience. drain vitality."
There. That is what listening to this album from start to finish is like, described by Keenan himself. The songs drag and drag, the seconds go by, will this ever en... WHOA! THAT WAS AWESOME!
There is definitely some truly awesome stuff here, but, for the most part, it is okay. Listen to this if you have to peel 348104967103,5 potatoes, or some other extremely tedious task. They will help make each other interesting.
