Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines

(03 Aug. 2010)

In my opinion, this is by far the best Nile album. This is Karl Sanders and his gang at the most intense, as well as most atmospheric. All the brutality in this album provides an impressive atmosphere, meaning that this is at the same time this band's heaviest and most atmospheric album, and the often shunned production compliments this.

Another plus of In Their Darkened Shrines is that it is probably the Nile album with the most variety, with every song having a different feel to it, every song equally brilliantly crafted.

Other Nile albums feel like they were written by the band. This one seems to have been written by the gods.

Standout tracks:

Sarcophagus
Unas Slayer Of The Gods
Churning The Maelstrom
I Whisper In The Ear Of The Dead
In Their Darkened Shrines: I. Hall Of Saurian Entombment
In Their Darkened Shrines: IV. Ruins
