Cryptopsy - None So Vile

(24 Aug. 2010)

For some reason, the first time I listened to None So Vile I was expecting to hear hugely overrated crap. After all, on The Metal Archives, the rave reviews of this album only came pouring in after the release of The Unspoken King. Luckily, this is not in any universe an overrated album. Straight to the point, brutal, no-bullshit technical death metal.

Even though the album is already from 1996, it's still one of the death metal albums with the best production I've heard yet. It's very thick, just slightly muddy and makes the album sound slightly messy: just right. It's probably not necessary to repeat for the nth time that both Flo Mounier and Lord Worm are beasts, not to mention that the solos on the album are excellent, but may I also point out that the riffs are also excellent and incredibly catchy.

The only reason why I'm not giving this album a full five stars is that it sometimes lacks a little variety, resulting in a bunch of awesomeness you are left with no recollection of having heard.

Standout tracks: (Woah! This is gonna be challenging. )

Slit Your Guts
Benedictine Convulsions
Phobophile
Orgiastic Disembowelment
