Pink Floyd - A Saucerful of Secrets
(17 Aug. 2010)
WAAAAAAY underrated Pink Floyd album. Here, Pink Floyd stumble, Pink Floyd stagger, and most probably ask themselves "what are we doing?" quite a few times, but still manage to make some great material along the way, despite an atmosphere of uncertainty hovering throughout the album.
This is not the Pink Floyd that does Wish You Were Here. This is not the Pink Floyd that, after a bunch of albums, knows what they're doing. This is the humble Pink Floyd that really wants to make music to remember.
The production is awful: alternately too loud, too quiet, too muddy, too all over the place... overall, the musical equivalent of having a runny nose, although the music wouldn't have been so good with proper production. With the exception of Remember A Day and See-Saw, this album is great. Stop overlooking it.
Standout tracks:
Let There Be More Light
Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
Corporal Clegg
A Saucerful Of Secrets
Jugband Blues
