Misery Index - Discordia

(05 Sep 2010)

Usually, I tend to dislike Thrash due to its general lack of flexibility, use of rather simple structures with the objective of making music heavy and headbangy, and for it being overall catchy and accessible, instead of mindblowing.

Apparently, these are the same reasons why I enjoy listening to Misery Index. I know they're not thrash, but it would be difficult to find a Death Metal or Deathgrind band with more Thrash influence than these guys. Their lyrics are about politics, and their music almost forces you to headbang at gunpoint.

The whole album is a whole lotta fun, with every Extreme Metal cliché imaginable done right and with style, The songs being fast paced walls of sound, with a thick guitar sound, virtually inexistent bass, awesome drumming and very tasteful vocals. They do slow down, though, but when they do, it's simply so as to headbang slower.

When people say that Metal is thoughtless, loud noise, they're probably unknowingly referring to this album. Great and extremely enjoyable brain-dead metal.

Standout tracks:

Unmarked Graves
Conquistadores
Sensory Deprivation
Dystopian Nightmares
